Embodying Multiple Ways of Knowing – workshops
Day 1 | Thursday 11th September | 10.45-12.15
1. Relational workout
Giovanna de Oliveira Andreotti & Camilla Cardoso from GTDF collective | Room: Tetra
A cross-generational session exploring how to stretch beyond reformist reflexes and harmful relational habits shaped by modernity. With Rewiring for Realities and GTDF, we’ll engage through somatic grounding and reflection to build stamina for staying with what is difficult, unsaid, or unsettled.

2. Engaging with emotions about the state of the world
Panu Pihkala | Room: Skiftnyckel
Responding to the world evokes many kinds of emotions and thoughts. Aspects of these have been called for example polycrisis emotions, eco-emotions, and “our pain for the world”. In this workshop, we will explore various methods to engage constructively with these emotions and related existential questions. There are things we can do both cognitively and with our bodies so that we process change, increase our capacity to act, and follow an ethical path. The facilitator, Panu Pihkala, is a well-known eco-emotion researcher and workshop leader.

3. Ecosomatics
Anni Rissanen | Room: Kullager
A somatic session moving through the senses into the aliveness of body-in-ecology. Drawing on experiential anatomy and developmental movement, we’ll release what is held too tightly, awaken natural flow, and attune to the subtle rhythms of the rest of nature. Suitable for all curious about movement, embodiment, and presence.

Facilitated peer practice for reconnecting, Paremmat Pidot
Room: Cafe
Join Paremmat Pidot for a gentle peer practice of resting, reflecting, and reconnecting. 10–20 mins to pause, listen, and sense together what is alive in us amidst the Waves.
Revitalizing activities: Circle of playful connections
Venla Pesonen | Room: Tetra
Welcome to explore the connections that emerge when we create music together using our voice and bodies as an instrument!
This is a guided yet fully improvised experience, practicing the facilitation tools and methods of Música do Círculo. No prior experience is required, only an openness to connect with other humans in your own playful and authentic way.
Revitalizing activities: Bioindicators as guides for a world in crisis
Andrea Gilly & Eloise Smith-Foster | Hanaholmen nature
Ask the lichen- a contemplative walk for times of crisis. Bioindicators are guides who teach us about the ecosystem and the underlying impacts taking place. In this nature walk, we invite the more-than-human into conversation, entering an introspective moment for processing the topics of the day together. We believe language is a powerful catalyst for change. The words we choose shape what we perceive and how we act. Join us to “give voice to the sea” and co-create new linguistic pathways toward more hopeful futures.
Relational Debrief with GTDF
Room: Kullager
A space to explore how collective sense-making might unfold when we attune to what often goes unnoticed and make room for what has not yet settled. We will trace what is still moving and offer forms of accompaniment for what may be unfinished, uncomfortable, or quietly becoming.
Being With
Room: Skiftnyckel
A moment to arrive, breathe, and reconnect at Waves Summit. No prior knowledge is needed – simply be present. Rooted in the Inner Development Goals (IDG), this workshop blends sounds and embodied experience, guiding you to release, attune, and step fully into your own presence.
Sea Answers – Reimagining language for more hopeful relationship with the sea
Room: Kullager
How might we speak differently with, about, and alongside the sea? This co-creative workshop invites participants to explore our relationship with oceanic worlds through collective imagination and word-creation exercises. Together, we’ll craft entries for a living dictionary—a growing collection of terms and concepts that reimagine how humans relate to more-than-human life. No prior experience needed—just curiosity and care.
The session is hosted by Falay Transition Design and builds on our projects Niin Meri Vastaa (“As the Sea Answers”) and Niin Luonto Vastaa (“As the Nature Answers”). In 2024 we developed a participatory format for co-creating intentional language—a practical tool for reflecting on and reshaping how we relate to the natural world. By naming what has been unnamed or forgotten, we can notice extractive habits, invite reciprocity, and seed more regenerative ways of being—individually, organizationally, and culturally.
We believe language is a powerful catalyst for change. The words we choose shape what we perceive and how we act. Join us to “give voice to the sea” and co-create new linguistic pathways toward more hopeful futures.
